Adding // Not Adding

Comment to be Added
Those Who Do Not Comment Will Not Be Considered.

As of June 4, 2009, this journal is friends only.

Far too many people were friending me without my consent despite the clearly posted friending policy at the top of my journal. Now that's not to say that I'm anti-friend or anything (why would I even be on LJ if I was), but I like to be shown common courtesy.

I am not exceptionally selective about who I allow to friend me. If we have just one major common interest and that one is a big one for both of us, than we'll probably get along fine. :) Just respect my unshared interests, and I'll respect yours.

Just make sure that you comment on this post to ask me first.

I'll most likely add you as I love getting new LJ friends. :)

I'm sorry all.

I really intended to have a nice-sized update posted by last SUNDAY evening, but I just couldn't find time!

I don't know what it is with me lately! I have lots of things I could post about, but I can never get the words out quickly enough. (I get limited computer time. )

But anyway, I WILL be making more of an effort to get something of length up by the end of THIS weekend.

8 Character Questions Meme

Lois Lane

01. Do you like this character?

Heck, yeah! :D I don't just like her, I love her to pieces! ♥

She's been a favorite of mine since early childhood. :) I admire how comfortable she is with who she is.

She's at home in her own skin. She's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, and she's fully aware of it.

She's confident yet vulnerable, witty, tough yet feminine, feisty,  perceptive, loyal, has a well-meaning  heart....I could go on and on.

02. What name's do you call this character?

  Um, just Lois.

03. What image/color do you associate with the character?

Wild Cherries and their bright red color are definite LL symbols. I also associate her with that other famous Superman color, blue. Lois always looks stunning in blue! :) Although she's had some pretty stellar pink shirts on before...and then there was that gorgeous wine colored dress that she wore in this  promo:

...honestly, any color that's ever looked great on Erica (translation:almost all colors in the spectrum) will make me think Lois if I focus on it long enough, lol.

04. What image/song do you associate with this character?

ANYTHING by Whitesnake=Lois. ;)Though Kelly Clarkson’s “Miss Independent”, and Pink’s “Please Don’t Leave Me” really scream Lois to me, too.

05. What blood-type do you think this character is?

Have no idea. I don't even remember what my own type is off the top of my head, I’m afraid.

06. Of all of the titles that this character appears in, what character do you like to put this character with?

Only one man will *really* do for Lois: Clark Kent a.k.a. Superman. :)

I know he can be a real dumbass at times and that alot of die-hard Lois Lane fans would

rather pair her up with Bruce or Ollie. But for me, there will never be anyone for Lois Lane

except Clark Kent. They’re so opposite and yet so alike at the same time. They shouldn’t make any sense and yet they make perfect sense. They go (in Smallville) from enemies, to friends, to partners, to best friends, and soon, to lovers. And in the comics, they’re now married.  In any universe, they compliment each other perfectly.

07. What would you want to say to this character?

“Lois, I’d tell you that you’re awesome, but I’m sure you’re already fully aware of it.” ; )

08. What do you want to do with this character?

Get her together with Clark? :D

Hmm, you mean what I’d want to do as an outing with her? I’d love to get her to take me to whatever stores she gets her amazing wardrobe from! And then we could go out for lunch and maybe do some Joan Jett karaoke. ;)

If you mean like what I'd want to do with her storyline-wise? I'd like for Erica to be in at least TWENTY episodes per season instead of the piddling 12-13 she gets now ( >:(  ) so more could be done with Lois. I want to see more of her ace reporting skills and more friendship time with Clark. And eventually, I want for her and Clark to be together as a couple. : )

09. Please choose 5 friends with your choice of character.

Anyone that comments can just ask and I'll give them a character to do if they want. :)

I'm way too tired to post a real entry right now, but I wanted everyone to know that I'm still here and to expect a nice, semi-lengthy update entry by Sunday evening. :)

I've been caught up in lots of things this week, and I haven't been given much computer time my family on top of it. As a result, I've been most lax in my comments on the f-list entries. I apologize for that. I hope to be all caught up with you each by the end of the weekend.

   Until then, goodnight!

*grrrrrrrrr*

Well, thanks in part to my dearest mother, my weekend has been shot to Hell before it even begins.

My grandmother had to have surgery today (nothing major), and her doctor said that after she comes home from the hospital tomorrow, someone will have to stay with her a couple of days "just in case". It's standard recommendation after any surgery to have someone nearby in case of emergency. And guess who was volunteered by their mother without their consent to be the senior-citizen-sitter? >: (

Now, I know that last comment probably made me sound like a spoiled, annoyed teenager whose being a jerk about helping a sweet, old lady. So let me give you all the background facts on my grandmother and myself.....

I have never liked this grandmother. I know that sounds horrible, but it's true. I love her, of course, because she IS my grandmother and because I know she loves me and means well. However, she irritates the life out of me, and I know full well that I am not her favorite grandchild by any means. She gets on my nerves because she acts like a child. Seriously. She is not intelligent, she's highly immature in her thinking in fact, she's self-centered, and she's obstinate. And I don't mean that in a youth-condescending-to-a-senile-old-person way. My mother, and my father when he was alive, would both vouch to that.  She means well, and she's always been pretty good to me and my siblings, but she really drives most people insane! Now, I can be perfectly civil with her and tolerate the whole situation just fine when it's only one of our usual dinner visits. But staying in that house for a whole TWO NIGHTS?!

I have to be there from around 3 tomorrow afternoon until early sunday morning, and it's going to be miserable. Not only because of my issues with her personally because she'll (hopefully) sleep most of the time, my grandmother's house is FILTHY. Going along with her lack of intelligence, she has no conception of cleanliness. NONE! The house is ceiling to floor, wall to wall, every single room dust and grime and dried up clumps of things. Plus, it's all cluttered because she NEVER THROWS ANYTHING OUT! This extends to food, also. I've never known to her to have milk in the fridge that wasn't expired and sour, and I have actually watched her eat moldy dinner rolls. Her explanation? "A little won't hurt you; it's where they get penicillin from." Whacked, I tell you, the woman is whacked!

So, obviously, I'll be packing my own food supply to take.

Then, there's also the issue of sleep. I won't be getting a wink of it. I won't get any sleep because for one, as I said, it's dirty over there and therefore, I won't want to lay down on anything. And second, it's a strange, smelly place with no electric fans. I really don't sleep well if at all without one. I need the white noise of an electric fan to sleep well.

Now, the last, and least major, problem is going to be the boredom. There is no computer at her house, so I'll be absent from LJ until Sunday afternoon/Monday morning at which point, I promise to try and catch up on all of my f-list entries.

Thankfully, she does have a lovely television and DVD player, so I'm going to bring some DVDs to try and alleviate the boredom and general unpleasantness. I'm thinking I'll bring along Seasons 1 and 3 of House, Seasons 1-2 of The X-Files, and probably a few other DVDs. I'm going out tonight to buy a set or two of something new. I might get the first season or two of How I Met Your Mother or the first season to Lois & Clark:The New Adventures, whichever catches my eye. Scooby-Doo is also a buying option. Not joking. I've been watching reruns lately, and I LOVE that cartoon! :D

But anyway, I just wanted to vent and let you all know why I'm not commenting on your entries this weekend. I'll be catching up as soon as I get back though, so don't worry. :) Also, any good wishes and prayers offered for a tolerable weekend would be greatly appreciated. :)

See you all later!

Well, after nearly TWO WEEKS of tinkering, I’ve FINALLY gotten that lengthy weekend update entry that LJ lost a chunk of  fixed and ready to post. I know some might think it a bit silly to post an update entry for events which aren’t so fresh anymore, but after working so hard on it TWICE, I couldn’t not post it. Plus, I think it’s a fairly interesting entry unlike many of my others.  So here it is, FINALLY, my weekend update entry for March 21-22.

I'm trying out a little something new  with this entry that I think will help me increase my posting regularity. I'm now doing numbered lists for general LJ updates. I've been wanting do this ever since it occurred to me how much I love the easy-readable-ness (yes, I know, NOT a word) of  [info]fiddlings   entrys.  I’m kind of obsessive-compulsive about things being all neat and tidy with regards to the written word, and it’s always acted as an unfortunate preventative when it comes to LJ posting. If I type something up and it comes off as out-of-synch and jumbled to me, well, then I just don’t want to post it for the world to see! I’m hoping that  by utilizing this new, more efficient and organized, list method, my entries may become as frequent as 3-5 week, if not in time, near to being daily. : )

So, let’s see how this goes:

1-  I should’ve done this AGES ago, but better late than never, right? ; )

I’d like to welcome the following new members to my f-list:

2-
I had the most wonderful time last weekend! ♥  On Saturday, we all went to my cousin Holly’s new house to visit for the first time.  It’s the first time that she and her husband, Rick, have owned a place of their own, so it’s a pretty big deal. I was a bit apprehensive about it at first because the outside didn’t look too specactacular. But after visiting, I am happy to report that my fears were ill-founded. Her house is just perfect for them! : ) It’s small but in a cozy way. The whole house is lovely, and I’m so happy for her to have such a nice place for herself now.

Later that day, we went to a local antique store that I’d never visited before.  Now, I always knew that I had an interest in objects with history, unique pieces, collectibles, but I never realized just how ridiculously happy I could be made simply by wandering through a huge store full of such things! They had beautiful old books, stacks of pristinely preserved old comics, TONS of collectible stuff from various movies, shows, cartoons, etc., beautiful art and furniture….if I’d had the money, I could’ve easily bought out half the store. : ) Speaking of which, no one knows how much it KILLED me to not have more than a hundred dollars to my name at the time because I found THE desk! The desk I’ve always wanted! It was a lovely little slant top desk made of walnut wood.  It was so, so perfect! I couldn’t afford it though. : ( It is possible though that  it’ll still be there this month when I go back. If it is, I am definitely buying it. I need a desk, and this one, on top of being my ideal, would fit just right underneath my window.

Anyway, I concluded that wonderful day with a quiet night on the computer snagging up some GORGEOUS Disney icons courtesy of [info]anakaliaandrea and [info]kiaras_icon .  It was like the best day ever!    : D

3- Sunday was very nice too though not quite on the level of Saturday. : )  I  missed church because my mum needed to sleep in after cleaning up vomit the previous night (my little sister got sick).  But then my best friend and I got to have an afternoon out to lunch and a movie. We ate at T.G.I. Fridays, a restaurant to which I'd never been. It was delicious! : D  I had a large burger with fries. Simple, but it made me happy. Then we went to see a movie. We saw Watchmen. More on that later this week. I'll post a review after I've had time to collect my thoughts better. My reaction is kind of hard to articulate right now.

What I will say right now regarding my movie visit is that there were some very appealing previews which pleased me. : )  I now have 3 movies to add to my "to-see" list for the coming months: Terminator:Salvation (I've never seen any Terminator movies in my life, but the preview looked cool, it stars Christian Bale, and one of the Nolans worked on the screenplay. It can't be too bad!), Star Trek (I'm a long-time Trekker, and even though I have a feeling that this will be NOTHING like actual Star Trek, it's my duty as a fan to give it a whirl. And the preview actually looked tolerable, so who knows, maybe it'll be decent.), and Public Enemies (Johnny Depp! Christian Bale! One Movie!!! Johnny Depp and Christian Bale IN THE SAME MOVIE!!!!! They're both two of my favorite actors if you can't tell. And before you go assuming I'm a sex-crazed fangirl, let's make something clear: I  admire them for their talent, not their looks. Though the looks don't hurt a bit. ;)  Plus, it's based off of real history, and 20's history to boot! I love the 20s. So I'll most definitely try to get to see this one. )  Also, I want to go and see the new Pixar movie, Up, but I already knew before the previews todat that I wanted to see it. My family always goes to the movies for the newest Pixar release. :)

4- My most listened to songs tonight? "Hallelujah" by Rufus Wainwright, "Hot 'n Cold" by Katy Perry, "
Boston" by Augustana, and "My Life Would Suck Without You"  by Kelly Clarkson. No real reason to put that in here. I just felt like it. :D

5- Having been inspired by [info]fiddlings   on yet another count, I'm also going to start a new thing to try and get to know my f-list better. At the end of each entry, I'm going to post one question, maybe simple, maybe not, for you all to answer. :)

Here's the first one:

How did you first come to discover Livejournal/Start an LJ of your own?

Okay.

So I had just posted a very lengthy, well-organized, upbeat entry update for you all.

I was very pleased with it and couldn't wait to get it up.

Then I noticed that the lj user links looked wonky, so I went under edit to fix it.

BIG. MISTAKE.

After I thought I'd cleared up the problem, I looked and saw that the longest, most important part of the entry was GONE!!!!!!!!!

And I spent HOURS typing it UP! :(

Sometimes I hate LJ! It's always doing weird things to my posts as I'm typing them, but deleting a whole SECTION!!!!!!

I wanna cry now.

Anyway, I'm afraid I'm going to have to delay a nice, new, happy entry until later tonight/early tomorrow.

Bummer.

By far, one of the greatest tragedies of our all too short human existence is that we never realize how little time we're really gifted until one of us dies.

In case some of you are not yet aware, British actress Natasha Richardson just died quite suddenly and tragically today. :(

Natasha Richardson Dies After Fall on Ski Slope

While not as commercially known as other actresses, she possessed a great amount of talent and a lovely personality.  A woman from a large theatrical background, she was daughter to director Tony Richaredson and actress Vanessa Redgrave,  sister to actress Joely Richardson, wife to actor Liam Neeson, and mother to two young sons, Michael and Daniel.

She was only 45 years old.

There are many feeling the pain of her loss right now, and as someone whose has up close and personal experience with death taking a parent all too soon (my father died of cancer at age 45), I am filled with sympathy for her family and friends as they go through this rough time. My prayers will most assuredly be going out to them this week.

I know this is kind of a somber entry, but I just couldn't not say anything about this. Shocking deaths always make me thoughtful...I see how much time I spend doing nothing when I could be doing something, could be making a difference if even in a small way. I could be helping my mum with chores more, telling people I love them at every opportunity, spending more time with my siblings despite how often they get on my nerves, praying more often and more fervently, studying my Bible more,...so many things.

And I just can't understand why someone has to die for me to dwell on important issues like this.

I am a bad, BAD Clois shipper!

I DIDN'T WATCH "INFAMOUS" LAST NIGHT!

I know I said to expect an entry detailing my feelings on the newest Smallville episode this morning. Apparently I lied. I apologize. ;)

I meant to watch last night, but as I woke up at 5:15 yesterday and was out and about all afternoon, I was way too tired to watch last night. I went to bed early instead. Thankfully, I have DVR, so I can't get around to seeing it today, but now I'm not as hyped. I read reactions around the net, and while most seem to think the episode was good, no one was as blown away as we all expected to be. Everyone seems to agree that a second watch is necesasry to fully appreciate this one.

Don't get me wrong though. I still really look forward to this one! :) My expectations are just a bit lower.

Well, I've determined that I must be cursed or something. Because after all that talk in my last post about yesterday looking so promising, it ended up kind of sucky. :(

But I won't go into dreary details! Because tonight is Thursday night, March 12, 2009! And you all know what that is right?

Right?!

NEW EPISODE OF SMALLVILLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And not just any new episode! For those not in-the-know, it's the first new episode since NOVEMBER to feature the amazing Lois Lane! ♥

That means tons of Cloisy goodness! :D
And as if my layout weren't a dead giveaway, I LOVE Cloisy goodness!

Also

SPOILER! )

Definitely expect a super-gushy post on the episode tomorrow morning! :)

Lastly, In honor of the new episode, I FINALLY installed a custom mood theme: Clois, of course.

Check it out at the end of this post! :)

I'm always fascinated by how very little it sometimes takes to make a day great for me.

I had been having a kind of  lousy, depressing weekend, overall, but then Sunday turned out to be one of the most enjoyable days I've had in ages.  I got up a little before 5 a.m., feeling very unwell. I thought I might getting the flu which scared the heck out of me. The flu is by far one of the most torturous things one has to experience in life. It feels like waking death. Every inch of the body hurts to a degree, food is totally lacking in appeal, your body is hot as a furnace but you feel like you're in the arctic, and it all adds up to make one feel imprisoned in a sort of illness state penitentiary on a lifetime sentence. The dreaded blight has been going around the community where I live, so my fears were well-founded. But thankfully, it turned out be dehydration or something because after drinking something I felt all better again. :D
And that's when my day started perking up! I sat down at the computer since it was free. In my home, if you snooze, you lose when it comes to computer usage time. I got a lovely grilled chicken sandwich and some barbecue chips to eat for "breakfast" along with another large glass of pepsi, and spent FIVE UNINTERRUPTED HOURS ON THE COMPUTER!!! My family didn't wake up until 10! Besides checking my usual things like my e-mail and my LJ, I spent about an hour and a half of that time browsing through IGN.com's 100 Best Animated Series Ever List. That list was the highlight of the day just about. I love lists, I love animation more than anyone I know, off or on the net, could imagine, and the rankings of series on the list were pretty accurate, I think, though there were a few major fallacies in the ranking, in my opinion. After my computer time was over, I went upstairs and FINALLY started getting my books back on the shelves and organized. This was a huge achievement since every book I own has been stacked all over my room since the end of November.

No, I'm not joking.

I had been doing a complete shake-down of my bedroom, throwing old stuff out, re-organizing, scrubbing and dusting from top to bottom. I had completed everything except re-placing my books on the shelves at the time, but I was frustrated by the organization. I wanted to concoct a new organizational plan for them before I expended all that time and energy putting them back.  So, what ended up happening was that they all stayed strewn about my personal living quarters until early this week, LOL.  Darn my Monica Geller-esque perfectionism. I'm not sure what's worse, the fact that I'm such a hopeless perfectionist or the fact that I don't REALLy mind being one all that much. :) But anyway, I passed away Sunday afternoon doing that.  I then spent that evening having a Smallville mini-marathon.
I watched five episodes in all:"Instinct", "Committed", "Prey", "Identity", and "Abyss". They were almost all fantastic! I am so in love with Smallville's eighth season right now. ♥ We have Clark finally acting more like a Superman and less like  Lana's lapdog. We have Lois being...well, her amazing self. We have Oliver as a regular (love Ollie!), two new awesome characters:David and Tess, and tons else.
Oh, and did I mention the best thing, Clois goodness at every turn? No? Well, there's Clois goodness at every turn! :D They OWN this season! That scene in "Committed" with the lie detector? *faints* I could not tell you how much I love that scene! ♥ It's perfect. And that bit of jealousy in "Instinct":

Lois: There is nothing romantic between Lois and Clark.
Maxima: You have a deep connection to him; I felt it.
Lois: Then your radar's on the fritz. ‘Cause even on a good day, we're barely friends.
Maxima: He never would have been able to pull away from me if he wasn't drawn by his attraction to you.
Lois: Look, he's about as attracted to me as a Red Sox fan to the Yankees.
Maxima: Oh, you may not know it yet, but believe me there's a bond. And I could see it on your face when you caught us
                              together,  you  feel it, too.

*squees*

I so cannot wait for "Infamous" on Thursday! Clois FTW! !!!!

So, there you have it. Great, great day for me!

Quiet, Computer, Cleaning, and Smallville/Clois. It doesn't get much more perfect than that! :D

Today seems to be flowing away pretty happily so far, so I'm hoping to have another good one.

I'm planning on getting my room completely finished today, and I might pop out some Smallville or Bones DVDs later.

Or read a book.

I'll see where the mood takes me. :D

Five Subject Interview

Give me five subjects that you associate with me, and I'll post my thoughts/feelings about each one.

I snagged this meme from[info]anakaliaandreaabout a week ago, and now that I have my computer back and have finally finished it (I'm a slow writer sometimes), I'm finally posting it:

Here are the 5 Subjects she gave me along with my comments:

1. Clois

Clois. Clark and Lois. Lois and Clark. Lane and Kent. So many combinations of two words for one ship, and each one never fails to make me smile when I hear it or see it written out. :) These two have been around for seventy plus years, and appeared in countless different incarnations and universes. And I've shipped them in every single one that I've ever seen, starting with the animated versions from Superman:The Animated Series (GREAT show!), and currently on Smallville(also an amazing show :D). Little fact: I actually wasn't too impressed with their relationship on Smallville at first. I thought they bickered TOO much, and it made them come off as very unpleasantly antagonistic. Now, I'm not against ships with banter/bickering 100% of the time; however, I am always VERY cautious when it comes to those sorts of ships. A love/"hate" relationship had better show me that there's more love than hate in the end for me to get on it's side. And for a while, I didn't see that with CL on SV. Then I saw Apocalypse....♥ I haven't watched nearly all of the SV episodes yet, so this was one of the first ones I saw from the past few seasons. AND I LOVED IT! It was scene at the end of the episode that made me fall in love with SV Clois. While the bickering was still there, that scene showed me that they'd managed to develop a real affinity with one another. There actually seemed to be some understanding and compassion between them now. Well, I watched some more, now looking for clois details, and I was very impressed with how much the SV writers had developed their relationship. They were definite friends now, albeit friends with a lot of snark shared with one another. And then this season started and....it just got even BETTER! :D They're such a major ship for me. I really, really love them. Clark acts alot more like a well-adjusted adult around her and alot less like an angst-ridden teenager. She makes him smile and brings out his sense of humor. And while she may rib him a bit, she's always there for him when he really needs her. And when she's around Clark, Lois becomes more open and she's a bit more positive. They really do bring out the best in each other, and I am so glad that Smallville has made it possible for me to adore them in yet another incarnation of the mythos. No one messes with Lois and Clark.

2. Disney

I LOVE DISNEY!!! I've been watching Disney films and Disney animated series. I used to watch Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs once or twice a week when I was visiting my grandmother's. I had a Snow White doll, some plastic dwarfs, a Snow White mug, a Snow White pocket book, and I wore a Snow White costume for Halloween three years in a row. :D Then I fell in love with The Lion King along with my very first ship ever, Simba/Nala. I had a large stuffed Simba toy, a Lion King sticker book and coloring book, a Lion King board game, and some pajamas with Simba and Nala on them. And currently I have some Lion King trading card upstairs. :) I went through similar phases with each Disney film I watched just about, though not always with so much merchandise involved in the obsession. I still watch Disney movies and certain animated tv series frequently and I'm collecting all of my favorites and even some of my not-so-favorites on DVD.
I know that I'm eighteen years old, and that there's alot of people out there who'd mock me for loving Disney movies as much as I do. To those people, all I can say is, I don't care. I love the magical feeling I get whenever I watch a good Disney movie. I love the memorable characters, the beautiful animation, the romance, and let's not forget the music! :) Some may call them sappy or even saccharine, but I don't think it's wrong to enjoy a little sweetness now and again. We'd all be pretty miserable if we only watched stark realism all the time. Every home should have a Disney section in their film library.

3. Batman

"Dadadadadadadada BAT-MAN!" , as the old cheesy 60's series put it. ;) Batman, just like clois and disney, has been a big deal for me for almost the entirety of my life in some fashion. I started catching reruns of Batman:The Animated Series when I was about...7, I think. We had just gotten Cartoon Network added to our cable package, and it was being aired at 6:00 in the evening right after the Toonami block. I adored that show, and I watched it religiously! At the time I remember loving the dark animation which I wasn't used to, and I liked how interesting the characters were. I couldn't quite put my finger on it at the age of 7, but I could see that these weren't the same sort of people I saw in my other cartoons. The show was one of many that first nurtured my interest in "shipping". Bruce Wayne + Selina Kyle (Batman/Catwoman) = OTP ♥ And then we got the Kids WB lineup on channel 26 in the mornings, and I discovered the Batman/Superman hour which showed both the newer Batman:TAS episodes and the episodes to Superman:TAS. So I started watching it every weekday morning along with my nightly Batman viewings. :D Well eventually they stopped showing all of the above mentioned amazing series, and my love waned for a bit. ( I did, I'm ashamed to admit, regularly watch the old 60's Batman show for a bit when TV Land brought it back. I loved it at the time, but now it's so cheesy that ...well, let's just forget it shall we?) Then came my first of many viewings of Tim Burton's first Batman movie! :D I was old enough at that point to really appreciate the depth to Batman that I hadn't been able to realize at age 7, and it made the whole thing ten million times more wonderful for me! Then, once again, I'm not sure why, my interest when away again for a time.....until The Dark Knight's release and the return of Batman:The Animated Series to my area's TV networks. Well, suffice it to say, The Dark Knight turned what once was just a childhood obsession into an adult obsessive fandom! :D I'm almost ashamed to admit how much I think of Batman on a weekly basis. He's my favorite superhero I think. Well, maybe my favorite tied with Superman. ;) I love them both bunches! :D And I can't wait to finally watch some episodes of Justice League one of these days.

4. Books

The fact that I have that Books to Read in 2009 post topped in my LJ along with that awesome banner, should tell you how much I LOVE books! :D And I do! I LOVE 'Em, LOVE 'Em, LOVE 'Em!!!!! I've been a fairly avid reader ever since I learned how, and while I've been nigh unforgivably lax in my reading recently(wouldn't you just know that as I soon as I make a goal and set up a list, I stop reading for a bit?), I still refer to myself as quite the bibliophile! :) Classics are my most favorites: Shakespeare, Austen, Dickens, and the like. I go through phases where I live and breathe mythology and fairy tales. But I also love more modern books like Harry Potter, and there's several Star Wars EU and Star Trek-related books that've held fast to my attention along with a few King Arthur-verse works. A good mystery is always just to my fancy as well. Like I said, I'll read almost anything if it's a recognized classic, if the plot sounds intriguing, and/or if someone whose opinion on the matter I respect recommends it. Only things I hate with a fierce passion: Supermarket books or things very much resembling them(Horror, Romance, Western, Sci-Fi...if it's one of those dime-a-dozen pieces built on nothing but tawdry sex and/or gore, then chances are I'll detest it). I should also note that I read alot of non-fiction too, mainly religious or historical works, but alos some science writing along with lots of books about my various passions such as film and television. I even have several large volumes upstairs on books themselves. :D And lest I forget: I'm a big fan of children's picture books. I think they're an institution. I still pull my favorites from the shelf and read them through every now and again. I love them dearly even now. I'm currently collecting my favorites up so I can take them with me when I move into my own place in a few years. I have this dream to own the perfect library one day. Lots of dark wood shelves going to the ceiling, a deep high-backed leather easy chair, a nice sidetable with coasters to place mugs of tea or cocoa on, and a tall, slender, slightly old looking lamp to read by. :) I may never get it, but that library is my castle in the sky.

5. House

Hmmm, what to say about the greatest TV drama on the face of the earth? Well, to start with, this series was the first one to push me into the online fandom as an active participant. I was so into this series that I started joining forums and discovered the joys of congregating with other fans to discuss, squee, and rant with when necessary. And as a result of that, I discovered the joys of fanart! And Livejournal!
But more than just it's impact on my fan participation, it also was and still is one of my most obsessive fandoms ever! I can't count the number of House fics I've read or the number of icons I've snagged. Why the great fervor? I can't really explain it. Not in any way that would do it thorough justice. House has to be the single most fascinating character in anything ever, for one. I've never met with a character with so much depth and so much, well, humanity, as him in a TV show. And while none achieve his depth, the supporting characters are pretty complex and interesting too. Especially Cuddy. She's on my top ten list for most awesome female characters in anything ever! She's strong yet still feminine, which I like. She's intelligent, she's witty, she's able to be stern or comforting depending on the situation, she's a wonderful dresser most of the time....she's just amazing! :) My definite favorites are House and Cuddy. Which brings me to one of the greatest and most major perks of this series: My OTP, House/Cuddy. I LOVE THEM! ♥ They snark constantly but they're also really old and close friends. (My ideal ship, basically). I can't describe how great a pairing they are, really ,so I won't even try. Just let's finish with this: they were at one point my lone Number 1 ship of all ships. They still are actually, they're just tied with two of my other OTPs for top spot now! :D. ♥

Thanks for reading! :)

Comment on this meme post, and I'll give you five subjects to post about in your own LJ. :)

I meant to post an update a few days ago, but I had the oh-so-wonderful luck to be hit by  an enormous snowstorm!
It passed through a good 2/3 if not more of the US eastern coast , landing us in a NINETEEN HOUR blackout at my house!
No electricity, and thus no computer, AND NO HEAT! . >:(

Thankfully we got back up and running this afternoon before night set in. :)
I don't think I could've taken another night like the past one. I was freezing cold, with nothing to do, and not much to eat.
Although my brother and I did have some fun last night after it calmed down a bit walking through our neighbor hood at midnight and seeing all of the pretty snow. It was so calm and quiet. It felt like something out of a fairytale. I was greatly reminded of Narnia, when they first pass through the wardrobe, and it's all wintery and still.

Anyways, I am SUPER grateful to God that we got our power back so soon.
Some of the people in our area may not get back up until the end of the week. (YIKES!!!)

30. Do you swear a lot?
31. Biggest pet peeve?
32. In one word, how would you describe yourself?
33. Will you repost this so I can fill it out and do the same for you?

Here were my answers:

1. Can you cook? Nope, not really. I can followed some basic recipes and have the food come out alright, but I'm no gourmet. I'd love to develop some really culinary skills though.

2. What was your dream growing up? I had several...for a while I wanted to be a pharmacist, then at various times I wanted to own a school, I wanted to be a missionary, I wanted to be a doctor, I wanted to teach...
I'm still considering teaching, as well as writing.

3. What talent do you wish you had? I don't know that I really wish to have any specific talentss. It's more that I wish I was esecially gifted at one of the "talents" I'm told I already have:writing, drawing, singing...I'd love to be a real prodigy at one of those.

4. Favorite place? Myrtle Beach, SC. Although I love sitting at home in my family room on the couch, too.

5. Favorite vegetable? Probably the potato, though I'm fond of broccoli and tomatoes too.

6. What was the last book you read? The last book that I read was the 5th volume in the Dragonball manga series.

7. What zodiac sign are you ? No clue. I don't put any stock in astrology.

8. Any Tattoos and/or Piercings? Not a one. I keep meaning to get my ears pierced, but I always chicken out.(MAJOR needle-phobe.)

9. Worst Habit? Over-analysis. If there's any possible way to worry over something, I can most likely locate it.

10. Do we know each other outside of lj? Nope.

11. What is your favorite sport? I'm not really much of a sportsperson....I guess baseball.

12. Negative or Optimistic attitude?
Unfortunately, negative, but I'm told I'm improving. :)

13. What would you do if you were stuck in an elevator with me?
First I'd push that emergency button to see if we could get help out of that elevator, than once I was sure there was help on the way, I'd probably sit down and strike up a conversation about fandom (assuming I know it's an LJ friend.)

14. Worst thing to ever happen to you?
I don't know...I feel like my automatic response should be "when my dad died" but,..I'm not sure, really.

15. Tell me one weird fact about you:
I'm a compulsive list-maker.

16. Do you have any pets?
Not at the moment.

17. Do you know how to do the macerana?
I used to, but I've forgotten how.

18. What time is it where you are now?
11:18 P.M.

19. Do you think clowns are cute or scary?
I think they're kind of creepy and annoying most of the time, but I'm not scared of them.

20. If you could change one thing about how you look, what would it be?

I'd be fifteen pounds slimmer.

21. Would you be my crime partner or my conscience?

It'd depend on the situation.

22. What color eyes do you have?

Hazel.

23. Ever been arrested?

Never.

24. Bottle or Draft?

Bottle, I guess, but I'm not legally allowed to drink yet, so...

25. If you won $10,000 dollars today, what would you do with it?

Pay off my mother's credit card debts, buy a car, put away some money for college, and spend the little that was left on DVDs/CDs/Books.

26. What kind of bubble gum do you prefer to chew?

I don't like bubblegum.

27. What 's your favorite bar to hang at?

See my answer to 24.

28. Do you believe in ghosts?

I don't think so.

29. Favorite thing to do in your spare time?

Watch TV, Make a List, Listen to music,...I can't really single out one favorite thing.

30. Do you swear a lot?

To a degree.

31. Biggest pet peeve?

People who think that they're highly enlightened and intelligent, but in reality, possess nothing that remotely resembles actual logic.

32. In one word, how would you describe yourself?

Analytical.

33. Will you repost this so I can fill it out and do the same for you?

Sure, why not. :)

I meant to update and post this entry days ago, but unfortunately, I didn't get the computer until a little past the deadline on this year's "actual" Valentine's Day, and then finding the caps I wanted took a while, but still....better late than never. :)

We've just finished up yet another Valentine's Day in which I am single while it seems that everyone else in the world(translation:everyone I know personally)........is NOT.

So, since I don't have a "special someone" of my own to dwell on right now, I'll have to be content with dwelling on my favorite fictional lovers. :)

I just had a MISERABLE half hour of fighting with one of my brothers (or rather, a miserable half hour of being verbally attacked by my brother for no good reason and trying to get his arrogant ass to STFU and leave me ALONE), but I won't bog anyone down with that. Not after my last entry was such a downer (unfortunately). I'm going to cheer myself by doing this meme that I got from [info]fiddlings  :

1. What was your first fandom?

Hmm, I'm trying to remember. I've had SO many! But I guess the very first fandom I ever had, in the sense of it being something I was REALLY obsessed with, was The Lion King. :) I was four years old, and it was the first movie I'd ever seen that really swept me up into it, took me to another place! I had a ton of LK gear and I would definitely say that Simba/Nala was my first real ship. ♥

If we're talking fandoms after I was old enough to really appreciate that I was a FAN of something, than I'd probably say Star Trek (yep, I was and still am a Trekker. ;) ) I learned the term "ship" as a result of that fandom!

2. If you could only eat one food for a week, what would it be?

Bagels with cream cheese. Possibly my favorite food of all! And I'd have chocolate milk to drink with it.

3. What is something you find yourself doing in your spare time?

Besides dwelling WAY too intently on shipping? :D

I make a LOT of lists. Of anything and everything. Favorite this, least favorite that, dvds to buy, books to read, ....you name it, I've made a list about it at some point.

4. If you were given the opportunity to spend a month in 3 different places, where would you visit, and how would you divide up the time? (e.g. 2 weeks in Iceland, 1 week in Paris, 1 in Italy)

I would visit Great Britain for two weeks, Italy for one week, and Greece for one week. I have a huge interest in Britain-the culture, history, and literature, I love it all! And I love ancient history and both Italy and Greece are at the heart of ancient culture. Plus, the whole Mediterranean area is so gorgeous!

5. What is one movie you cannot stand?

Just ONE, lol! :D

Ever see any of those old Disney live-action movies? One of my younger brothers went through an obsessive phase with them, and there was this one starring a young Kurt Russell called "The Strongest Man in the World", and I think it's easily on my list of the worst movies EVER. It was so freakishly cheesy even for Disney, and it had no plot to speak of really. I know that doesn't really give you much to go on, but it's all I can come up with. It's one of those bad sorts of movies that you have to see to really get how terrible it is.

              Now it's your turn!

1. Leave me a comment saying, 'interview me'.
2. I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
3. Update your LJ with the answers to the questions. (You must do this, even if it's filtered for my eyes only!)
4. Include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.
